The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has invited Poland to extend the local border traffic area from 30 kimeters to 50 kilometers, the ministry’s special envoy, Mykhailo Borodych, has said.
The press service of Lviv Regional State Administration told Interfax-Ukraine that Borodych had announced this at a meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental coordination council.
He said that a 50-kilometer zone on both sides of the border had the highest economic activity and exchanges between citizens of Ukraine and Poland, so, in his opinion, the logical step would be to extend the local border traffic zone to 50 kilometers.
An agreement on local border traffic between Poland and Ukraine came into force on July 1, 2009. According to the document, citizens of both countries living in the 30-kilometer border zone have the right to enter and stay in the 30-kilometer border area in a neighboring country under special permits issued for two years.
