Austria plans to open a consulate in Chernivtsi. This issue was discussed during the meeting of the Head of Chernivtsi Regional State Administration M. Papiyev and head of the regional council V. Vatamanyuk with the Ambassador of Austria to Ukraine Wolf Dietrich Heim.
According to the ambassador, Chernivtsy region is an important partner in the context of deepening cooperation within a new European strategy for the Danube region, given the long history of cooperation between Bukovyna and land of Carinthia. Mr Heim supported the initiative of Mr Papiyev to sign a cooperation agreement between Chernivtsy region and Carinthia, which is still regulated only by the relevant protocol.
Among of the Ambassadors main tasks, Mr. Heim determined deep cooperation between two countries. Moreover, the ambassador considers that it is necessary to open Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Austria in Chernivtsy. This initiative received the support of the region governance.
