Russia and Turkey have reached the final stage in the matter of mutual abolishment of visas. After Wednesday’s talks held by President Dmitry Medvedev and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan the two sides exchanged notes envisaging that the earlier signed agreements on readmission and conditions for mutual visits of Russian and Turkish citizens came into force.
The agreement on facilitating the visa regime applies to all visitors to Russia and Turkey arriving for a term of up to 30 days. Now citizens belonging to this category no longer need visas. Earlier, Turkey had charged 20 dollars per visa issued at an airport.
Earlier Prime Minister Erdogan told that the agreement would come into force as of May 2011. Turkey is one of the countries most often visited by Russian citizens. Last year ten million Russian citizens visited that country.
