Member of the European Parliament Rebecca Harms says about the possibility of imposing of the visa sanctions against the representatives of the Ukrainian government.
"In the case of abuse of judicial power we may approve special measures against members of the Ukrainian government, such as entry bans. We already have experience with other countries where political power was abused in the battle with political opponents. We have to think about this", said Rebecca Harms.
Rebecca Harms also stressed that the problem of the selective justice would become an obstacle toward the signing of the Association Agreement. "After the EU-Ukraine Summit I expected the situation to improve because statements were made by the Ukrainian side that there would be a better attitude towards Mrs. Tymoshenko and Mr. Lutsenko. Instead, we’re seeing an unjust case against Vlasenko. This isn’t very smart, especially for the future of Ukraine, because in the association agreement we lay the foundation for the improved economic and democratic well-being of all Ukrainian citizens. We’re really trying to pave the road to the future and now there’s this case against Vlasenko…It goes against the association agreement," said Rebecca Harms.
"If Mr. Vlasenko ends up in jail, I see no chance that the association agreement will be signed," added the European Parliament member.
