The European Union has issued a mandate to start negotiations on readmission and visa facilitation with Azerbaijan, the organization’s press release says on Tuesday.
“The Council adopted a decision authorising the Commission to open negotiations for readmission well as visa facilitation agreements with Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the press release says.
Once the Commission estimates that negotiations with the two countries will have been finalised, the Council will need to adopt decisions on signing and concluding the agreements by qualified majority and the European Parliament will need to give its consent.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry confirmed issuing of the mandate for negotiations.
Readmission is state’s consent to admit its citizens (and, in some cases, foreigners, who have been or previously resided in this state) that are subject to deportation from another country, to its territory again.
