Moldova has made considerable progress in the implementation of the first stage of the process of liberalizing the visa regime – said visiting Director General for Home Affairs at the European Commission Stefano Manservisi.
Speaking at a news conference, Stefano Manservisi said that Moldova worked out and implemented a number of laws to secure the visa free regime. “This means that the first stage of the dialogue on a visa free regime, which covers the institutional and legislative framework, has been implemented to a large extent,” Manservisi said. He added that time is ripe to pass to the second stage of the dialogue, focused on the enforcement of the legislation.
Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman said that the first stage of the visa free regime is almost completed, and some draft laws adopted within it are already implemented. “There still are six draft laws we have to approve. After the parliament passes them, the European Commission will call on the council of the member states and the European Parliament to let Moldova pass to the second stage of implementation of the Moldova-EU visa action plan,” Gherman said.
The two officials held an international roundtable “Contribution of the Eastern Partners to the Stockholm Programme”. They discussed the recent evolutions and future priorities of cooperation in the justice and internal affairs sectors between the European Union and the Eastern Partnership’ states, including Moldova.
