The Committee for Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament has proposed that the parliament recommend that the European Commission initial the Association Agreement if possible by the end of 2011.
A relevant amendment to the recommendations to the European Commission and the Council of the European Union on the negotiations on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was adopted at a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in Strasbourg on Thursday.
This document will be the basis for a resolution that will be put to a vote at a plenary session in early December.
"[The European Parliament recommends] making all necessary progress in order to achieve the rapid initialing of an EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, if possible by the end of 2011; ensuring that this important initiative within the Eastern Partnership goes together with Ukraine’s commitments to necessary reforms and the strengthening of the political pluralism, democratic values, human rights and the rule of law," the document reads.
