Deputy Director General of the Razumkov Center Valeriy Chaly believes that Kyiv should focus on the liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union.
"In the near future, in the coming years, this is one of the real areas where we – Ukraine and the EU can achieve success," the expert said at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.
He noted that in the view of the signing of an association agreement with the European Union, Kyiv is moving away from this prospect, whereas on the path of liberalizing the visa regime they can achieve certain results. In particular, according to Chaly, the parties should work on expanding the agreement on simplification of the procedure of issuing Schengen visas for all citizens of Ukraine, and not only individual categories, which is happening now.
In turn, an expert from the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Oleksandr Sushko, said that Kyiv expect the second report of the European Commission on the implementation of the action plan for liberalization of the visa regime. He noted that in this context they could speak both about Ukraine’s progress and shortcomings, which will not let the country enter the second phase of the action plan.
Among the shortcomings, Sushko listed the documents security, absence of anti-discrimination law in Ukraine, as well as the uncertainty surrounding the anti-corruption agency.
