During the meeting with the activists of “Europe without Barriers” (June 16, 2011) the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström said that the European Commissions’ first official report on implementation of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation by Ukraine will be issued in September.
It was previously expected that this report would be prepared at the beginning of the summer, but the complexity and novelty of the process from the both sides has led to some delays in preparing the report.
As we know,
the Ukrainian side has submitted its own report on the implementation of the
Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation to the European Commission at the beginning
of June. The European Commission prepares the conclusion on the country’s compliance
with criteria and standards of the EU visa-free regime. After that a decision
is taken by the EU Council.
Now
implementing the first, legislative and planning phase of the Action Plan on Visa
liberalisation. Then the EU has to state its implementation and to give the
"green light" to the second implementation phase. According to the "
of 2011 or the beginning of 2012 (an optimistic scenario), or in the middle of
2012 (a conservative scenario).
