One of the important events which took place last week was the EC’s statement of Moldova’s successful compleation of all benchmarks of the first phase of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation (VLAP), aimed at abolition by the EU of short-term stay visas for that country.

The EU also signed the amendments to the EU – Moldova Visa Facilitation Agreement. Thus, for Moldova there is one step left in order to receive a visa-free regime from the EU, which is qualitative implementation of the legislation adopted in the frame of VLAP’s first phase. Ukraine has also the same document, granted by the EU to Ukraine much earlier than to Moldova. Meanwhile the only thing which Ukraine’s Parliament does is inciting people against each other using the “language” issue, meanwhile improving corruption schemes in public procurement. They do not care that Ukraine very soon would slide into the niche of bad performers in Europe, unable to implement even elementary, very often technical reforms for its own sake.
