Hungarian citizenship law entered into force on 1 January 2011 – and can be used not only by ethnic Hungarians living in Transcarpathia (are not less than 150 thousand).
Conditions for acquiring citizenship are minimal: the absence of previous charge, a basic knowledge of Hungarian and Hungarian background. Thus, a birth of near relations in Transcarpathia until 1920 or the war period (1938-45) will be enough to get Hungarian citizenship.
