One of Poland’s key aims during its six-month presidency of the EU next year is to get EU Association Agreement for Ukraine.
So said Speaker of the Polish Senate, Bogdan Borusewicz during a visit to Ukraine this week.
“We would very much like that the association agreement is signed during our presidency of the EU," Borusewicz said after a meeting with Ukraine Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.
Poland begins its six-month presidency on 1 July 2011.
Meanwhile, President Viktor Yanukovych has confirmed that he intends to visit Poland early next year. "We are currently working on the issue of my official visit to Poland, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011," he said, Tuesday.
When Yanukovich was elected as head of state earlier this year he said that though he had no plans to ally the nation with NATO – as had been on the agenda of his predecessor Viktor Yushchenko – further integration with the EU was part of his agenda in the coming years.
