The research on «Ukraine-Spain migration nexus: benefits and risks in the context of visa liberalisation between the EU and Ukraine» has been carried out by experts from “Europe without Barriers” in cooperation with Barcelona Center for International Affairs (Spain) in 2011-2012. A broad range of experts combined their attempts to provide competent perception of Ukrainian contribution on the Europe’s migration map.
Ukraine, according to research in the sphere of migration is a major labor “sending-country”, entering the world top ten on numbers of peoples, wanting to go abroad for job. Among other European countries which are attractive for Ukrainian migrants is also Spain.
Traditional views of Ukrainian labor migrants in Europe as “zarobitchanyn” which are deeply rooted in 90’s still contains stereotypes of deprived of rights and indigent Ukrainians dreaming to move somewhere outside of country in order to find whatever job is available for any amount of money. The proposed research ambiguously indicates that the realities has changed over the years and continue to change.
