"We think it is possible to finalise (Croatia’s EU) accession process in June," Austria’s Deputy Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, told journalists during a visit to the Croatian capital.

Along with his Slovakian counterpart Mikulas Dzurinda, Spindelegger held talks with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic.

"We would like to convince our colleagues in the EU that we all should give political support to Croatia in this process," Spindelegger said after the talks.

Dzurinda agreed, saying that Croatia "is ready to conclude (EU) negotiations in June."

The Slovak minister said that Croatia’s membership in the bloc would encourage other countries in the volatile Balkans region to adopt EU-sought reforms.

Dzurinda added that Brussels should be "strong enough to continue the process of enlargement … and overcome enlargement fatigue."

Jandrokovic labeled the two ministers’ visit as a "sign of support and encouragement to Croatia to hold on in these final weeks of (EU accession) talks and conclude them in June."
