On May 24, the founding meeting of the parliamentary friends of Ukraine will be held in the European Parliament. The MEP of Republic of Latvia Alexander Mirsky informed about it.
"To date, 20 MPs, representing almost all factions of the European Parliament (including the European People’s Party, Social Democratic Party etc) joined this group. " – said the MEP.
According to his words, the main aim to create a “Friends of Ukraine” group is a practical assistance to Ukraine in the most rapid European integration.
Mirsky said that it is planned to invite representatives of NGOs and businesses, who are interested in cooperation with Ukraine according to European rules, to join the activities of the parliamentary group. “We have identified several areas of the groups’ work – expert groups, political and economic group and expert group providing the monitoring on elections in Ukraine…”
MEP stressed that the issue is not a faction of the Ukrainian government lobbying. "This is not about a group of friends of the Ukrainian authorities or groups of opposition friends. It is about creation of “Friends of Ukraine” group, so we asked our colleagues in Ukraine to include representatives of all political parties to the membership of similar group of deputies that will be created in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. It’s not a group to support any one party ", – emphasized A. Mirsky.
