Commissioner Štefan Füle, responsible for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, will pay a visit to Ukraine on 10 and 11 January 2011.
The Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy will meet with President Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostiantin Hryshchenko, First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Klyuyev and Borys Tarasyuk, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration. As part of his regular dialogue with them, Štefan Füle will meet with representatives of the opposition.
The Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy will also meet with representatives of civil society, media experts, human rights defenders and members of the business community represented by the European Business Association in order to hear their perception of the current situation in Ukraine.
This visit aims to capitalise on the successes of the recent EU-Ukraine summit, held on 22 November 2010 in Brussels. Discussions will cover the future developments of relations between the EU and Ukraine in 2011, including negotiations of the Association Area, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. They will touch upon not only the latest political developments in Ukraine but also the economic reforms and business climate in the country.
“Let’s capitalise on the summit and intensify our dialogue," said Štefan Füle prior to the visit. "Relations with the EU are essential for Ukraine and relations with Ukraine are essential to the EU. Meeting next week with all stakeholders after the constructive summit in Brussels aims at making sure the benefits of this relationship are felt by our citizens." stressed the Commissioner.
